Sustainable  Construction CPD

This groundbreaking seminar programme in Sustainable Construction is aimed at all building design and cost professionals. The seminars are proving to be invaluable to clients, project managers and all involved in the design, operation and management of the UK building stock. The purpose of the Continuing Professional Development series is to assist practitioners in the understanding of sustainable design, and to provide the technical skills by which to implement the most up-to-date concepts. Gaia Research is also working with some professional institutions with a view to developing an accreditation scheme. It is envisaged that this scheme would allow design professionals to personally advance through classes of environmental design within their own institutions, based on demonstration of practical experience. The uniqueness of this project lies in its emphasis on implementation. Each one of the programme's 15 modules is delivered at a seminar presented by subject matter experts. Seminars include case studies highlighting best practice solutions and practical master-classes where design projects are discussed in interdisciplinary groups with peers and the specialists. These are accompanied by an Module reference guide covering critical aspects of the topic, detailing sources of further guidance, and outlining case studies. Seminar Programme The seminar programme ran successfully through 2001-3. No further CPD events are currently planned although we will consider enquiries from local authorities, clients and their professional advisors for in-house or project specific CPD. Accreditation We have established that there is a high level of interest from the professions in a system of accreditation for sustainable design. A pilot scheme was launched by the RIAS in October.
