Sustainable
Construction CPD -
Accreditation

Accreditation

Gaia Research has been investigating opportunities for an accreditation scheme for building designers.

The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) has been most supportive in these efforts and is actively investigating the pportunities. A draft application form has been circulated to all attendees at the CPD events and the response has been very positive, with overwhelming support of an accreditation scheme for individuals, along the lines of the existing RIAS scheme for building conservation. A pilot scheme was launched by the RIAS in October.

The deadline for first expressions of interest in the pilot scheme has passed . However if you would like to us to contact you with further information as the project progresses then please complete and submit the expression of interest form and we will contact you at a later date. This is likely to be after March 2004.

Download the expression of interest form.

Below are some brief questions about the scheme and we would welcome your response to these along with any other comments you might like to make.

Sustainable Building Design Questionnaire

(1) Are you generally in favour of accrediting sustainable building design? YES/NO

(2) Do you favour accrediting individuals, who can take that accreditation with them through a career? The alternative is somehow to try and accredit businesses. It is our view that business accreditation could come with individual accreditation, either of principals/directors, or employees. Do you support the current proposals for individual accreditation? YES/NO

(3) Is the scope of information sought reasonable for:

(a) personal details YES/NO
(b) projects YES/NO
(c) Practice/business information YES/NO
(d) Continuing Professional development activity? YES/NO

(4) Are the 5 classes of accreditation proposed clear enough? YES/NO
If changes are suggested: please advise.

(5) Is the cost at £200 (non-refundable) appropriate? YES/NO

(6) Is the 3-project approach in 5 years reasonable? YES/NO

Please let me have any other comments that you wish to make.
