Low Allergy Housing

Gaia Research have worked on a number of research projects involving the development and design of affordable low allergy housing.   The impetus for the research has been to raise the profile of breathing related disability to the same levels as is currently the case for access for the physically disabled.

The main aim of the research has been to develop an affordable low allergy building specification which avoids, where possible, known and suspected building allergens whilst minimising the environmental conditions from which building related allergens can have an adverse impact

Research work has included the development of an affordable low allergy building specification, culminating in the construction of 14 low allergy homes in Perthshire.   The monitoring of low allergy homes in Perthshire includes temperature and humidity monitoring, dust mite sampling and chemical testing. Gaia Research has produced guidance notes on Low Allergy Design for the ODPM Building Regulatory Authorities. The guidance note is now available for download here: Affordable Low Energy Housing: A Guidance Note.
