St Andrew University Estates Relocation
April 2010
Gaia were approached to undertake a concept scoping study for proposed new offices and workshops for the Estates Department of St Andrews University
The study involved desktop and field studies to ascertain the parameters that would influence the scale, massing and location of the development on the main approach to the medieval town. Particular issues are the relationship of the proposed development with adjacent listed student accommodation, designed by the renowned architect James Stirling, the nearby St Andrews Links golf course and the fluvial flood plain site constraint.
The scoping study concluded that the development could be designed as a “gateway” to the expanding university, and an exemplar of sustainable architecture.
