Culloden Battlefield Study

Brief

To establish a vision for the future of the overall Culloden Battlefield complex, including developing a strategy and timescale for its implementation.

Approach Vision

Following on from a series of workshops attended by representatives from The National Trust of Scotland, and Highland Council, a short, medium and long term strategy was developed. The developed strategy was based on the premise that the conservation of the Battlefield was paramount, the need for an integrated regional approach to tourism management and the reinforcement of a green belt strategy.Vision identified that the genius loci of the site would be enhanced by clearing the battlefield to take in the whole battlefield, enhancing a range of of low impact access methods including cyber-visiting and initiating a regional level discussion on transport to enhance visitor experience through improvement of the site and through links to other sites of special interest.
