Brief

Gaia Planning were commissioned to produce a report for Groundwork Northwest and Allerdale Council into the feasibility of a series of proposals connected with Curwen Hall House and Grounds in Workington.

Proposal

Gaia called upon a number of sources and existing enterprises to bring together a set of proposals which would be mutually supportive whilst building upon existing successes and drawing benefit from an attractive but largely under used site. These proposals included a sculpture park linked to an established rock sculpture project for young people, a number of trails and outside activities with links to transport connections and other nearby attractions. A small complex was proposed to house and focus the various activities including crèche, educational and eating facilities. The ensemble was called EarthWorkShop to describe the interlinking aspects of materials, activities and commercial success anticipated.
