Sports
and Environmental Interpretation Centre, Drumchapel, Glasgow
– Glasgow City Council with Gaia Architects
The
original design of the Interpretation Centre was undertaken
by Gaia Architects in the early 1990's
Design
The
building aimed to be a reflection and demonstration of the
Gaia approch to the four elements - earth, air, fire and water.
See Book of the project available from Gaia.

The walls of the original design utilised earth blocks from
soil sourced locally, while the roof structure used 'green'
round timber
poles.

Gaia Architects acted as consultants to Glasgow City
Council when the project was revisited in the late 1990's
The revised design respected the architectural approach
of the original and the innovative approaches to ventilation
and water treatment. The ventilation strategy involves the
use of dynamic
insulation following
its successful application by Gaia at the
McLaren Centre in Callander.
The daylighting strategy followed guidance from SportScotland.
