General
The twin areas of interest of Gaia are community architecture
and ecological design - often seen as incompatible, yet regarded
by us, through our experience of working with communities, as
mutually reinforcing.
Housing projects ranging from early work with Fairfield Co-operative
- still ongoing after 15 years - through to more recent work
on regeneration in Renfrew, has helped to develop a methodology
which has proved to be translatable to other types of development
- such as urban design strategies for Forli' in Italy, and industrial
park policies for Newcastle.
Gaia are currently developing an Agenda 21 Sustainable Development
model as a working tool for communities based on their experience.
