Energy
Conservation and Planning in Scotland
Brief
Gaia
Planning were commissioned by the Scottish Office, to prepare
a "think-piece" on the ways in which the concepts
of energy conservation might change approaches to planning in
Scotland.
Project
To
ensure that the latest thinking on the effects of energy conservation
on planning were incorporated in the study, workshops were held
with researchers throughout the UK and with planning practitioners
in Scotland. These led to an assessment of the national, regional
and local opportunities for planning to make a contribution
to energy conservation and the likely affects of this approach
on planning and urban design at these scales.
The report listed ten actions that planners could take to assist
energy conservation and provided a method of involving and training
planning staff in these concepts.
The document was distributed to all local authorities in Scotland
and published for wider distribution by the Scottish Office.
