The
Children's EcoCity
Brief
To
assist a group of children's specialists and art workers in
the design and facilitation of an event which involved 11 year-olds
in the design of their ideal ecological friendly city.
Project
The
Gaia Group were commissioned by the TASC Agency to assist in
the design of a children's event to be held during the European
Heads of Government meeting in Edinburgh. Gaia Planning provided
the Urban Design and Planning advice to the project and worked
with the children to establish principles for their planning
work. This all culminated in a large model which the children
then use to explain principles of planning and sustainability
to an invited group of parents, national and local politicians,
the technical press and representatives of various professional
bodies.
The original event has been followed by other such events in
Edinburgh schools and in the early stages of the planning of
the South East Wedge development site.
