Aviemore North -Master Plan

Brief

Gaia Architects were commissioned by Highland Council and Communities Scotland to carry out a master planning exercise for a major expansion of Aviemore village. The brief was to prepare a housing development framework and business plan for the proposed public and private sector housing developments, within the context of a healthy living and sustainable way.

Approach

The project team worked closely with all the delivery agencies, including Albyn and Cairn Housing Associations and Badenoch and Strathspey Enterprise, to produce an integrated master plan for the housing developments, over the proposed four year implementation period, that respected the natural environment of Aviemore North, whilst providing the required 200 house units and their associated infrastructure
The associated business plan indicated the cost of the development and the possible methods of obtaining public and private funding for the project.
Consultations with the local community took place to ascertain their views of the essential elements that should be incorporated into the planning exercise
