Recording
Studio for Simple Minds, Loch Earn, Stirlingshire
Brief
Gaia were approached by the band to design a studio adjacent
to their existing house on the shore of Loch Earn
Design
The
scheme consists of a double hexagonal plan, with acoustic requirements
which avoid parallel surfaces for controlling reverberation.
The studio space is double height with glulam portal frames
and - unusually for a recording studio - glazing to afford views
across the loch. It has been used as the major base for much
of the band's recording over the past ten years. This is an
example of high-tech activity enclosed in low-tech materials
but with both the thermal and acoustic specification at a high
performance level.
